By the time my book, F*cking Deal With It got published last May, it had already been in the works for two years (plus the many years of the depression and therapy I didn’t realize were research until I was in the thick of writing).
The project officially kicked off in 2022, mere months after COVID vaccines were a thing. I was living alone for the first time in years and couldn’t shake off the feeling that the rug could be pulled out from under me — from all of us — at any moment.
I can see now how much this affected FDWI — I wanted to create a book to make people feel less alone in a time where being alone still felt mandatory. I wrote it hoping it would feel like I was there in the room helping you parse out The Feelings and find names for Stuff That’s Hard to Name. And I’m so proud of the book. It’s exactly what I set out to make.
But I don’t think you should have to F*cking Deal With It alone.
When I’ve been lucky enough to get feedback about FDWI, I’ve noticed that there are some exercises that stump people and that stuckness becomes a barrier for them to continue. That makes so much sense. Life is hard and busy and it’s amazing to find an iota of time to dedicate to our mental health, so getting stuck can understandably throw a wrench in the whole process.
So, what if we F*cking Deal With It … Together?
I’m creating a group where we can fill out the book amongst friends. I’ll do the exercises live, and you can follow along, share your experiences, or just hang out.
Because social media is bumming me out big time, I’m going to use Substack as the platform for our group therapy*
*I’m not a therapist. Just in need of one.
So now comes the fun part: figuring out a ✨schedule✨ What works best for you?
If I don’t get a definitive answer, I’ll just start and we can always change the day and time as we go. Look at me, defying my Taurus nature and going with the flow!
I’m selfishly very excited about this and can’t wait to get started. Thank you for being here and being my people.
Love Always,
P.S. I just searched my inbox for the very first email between me and my editor about FDWI, and it was three years ago to. the. day. Seems like a good sign to me!
Fellow Taurus here who is SO IN.
